Pat “Packman” Buttitta, was born in Brooklyn. He moved to Italy (Sicily) at the age of 10 then moved back to the U.S. at the age of 17. He was afraid of dogs for over 25 years until he was forced to face his fears. When he moved into his first apartment, his neighbor had a Bull-Mastiff and a Coon Hound that would often be kept outside his apartment’s entrance.  He was able to avoid the dogs for some time, but had to plan when he would leave the house based on the dogs' schedules.  One day, when he returned to his apartment, he was faced with the two dogs outside of it. Pat had no possible escape options. He soon learned that the two dogs were actually not trying to kill him. This made his fears begin to subside.

While working to overcome his fear of dogs, Pat discovered Cesar Milan’s TV show The Dog Whisperer.  Watching The Dog Whisperer taught him that his fears were based on assumptions.  Determined to conquer his fear of dogs completely, he educated himself about dog psychology through the show and Cesar’s books. He applied what he learned through volunteer opportunities at local shelters.  His training efforts at the shelters helped numerous dogs get adopted by loving families.

With his fears now behind him, Pat decided it was time to start a pack of his own.  He adopted Socks, a troubled pit bull that was returned to a shelter numerous times due to behavioral issues.  He selected Socks in particular because of what he learned from Cesar Milan about the so called “aggressive breeds” (Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, etc.). He wanted to prove that ANY dog can be a great companion with the right knowledge and that those breeds were unfairly labeled as “aggressive.”  He dedicated himself to rehabilitating Socks, who is now helping others as a Certified Therapy Dog.  After working to rehabilitate Socks, he realized his passion and talent for helping troubled dogs.  Determined to dedicate his life to saving as many dogs and families as possible, Pat left his career of 16 years in financial services to establish Packman to the Rescue, K9 Solutions and Coaching.

The ultimate goal in his efforts is to show dog owner’s that sending or returning a dog to an animal shelter is not their only option and total rehabilitation can be achieved.
